Tea Camp

August 30th-September 1st

Our 2nd annual tea camp will be over Labor day weekend  8.30 – 9.01.
We invite you to join us to explore, through zen and chado, the values of Harmony, Respect, Purity and Tranquility. In our explorations, we will be using the zendo, tea room, kitchen(tenzo) and nature as our workshop.

We will start and end each day in the zendo for zazen (sitting meditation)  Our workshops will dive into the practical and subtle aspects of tea through movement, breathing, meditation, forest bathing, making a bowl of tea, tasting and discussion of tea sources. Each afternoon we will gather in the tea room or outdoors for a chakai (tea ceremony).

To finish, we will gather to share/reflect on our thoughts and experiences over the weekend.

Please join us to examine all the ingredients that help create this opportunity, to simply, have a bowl of tea.

If interested, please email by July 28th.  [Event Has Passed]

Zen and Tea October 2nd

Autumn dewdrops glisten on the lotuses

Dear Friends
On Saturday October 2nd we’ll meet online at 10:00am (PDT, 1:00pm EDT, 7:00pm CET) for an opportunity to share the Way of Tea.

Sokan will offer Chado (formal tea) and lead us through preparing our own bowl of matcha. [No matcha? please brew a cup of your favourite and come along.] Once we’ve made our bowl, we’ll savour our tea, and if we wish share a verse or quote that inspires us. We’ll start with a short zazen, then Sokan will offer formal tea, followed by our preparing our own. Sokan will open our conversation and if we wish we’ll take time and offer poems, quotes, and share our experience.

Please join the event via Zoom: [event has passed]

Zen and the Art of Tea

On Saturday April 3rd, we’ll meet online at 10:00am PDT (13:00 EDT, 19:00 CET) to attend a tea ceremony (Chanoyu).

An opportunity for us to gather, share a bowl of tea, a quote or verse, and celebrate the awakening of spring.

See the attachment for a calligraphy and commentary by Roshi of the verse:

“ Scoop up water and the moon is in your hands. Toy with flowers and their fragrance scents your garments..”

Sokan will host the tea ceremony, offering tea and lead us through preparing our own bowl of matcha if we wish. No matcha? please brew a cup of your favourite drink and come along.

Once we’ve made our tea, we’ll quietly savour the moment together, and if we wish, take turns and share a verse or quote that inspires us. Being together, creating a quiet space, sharing spare words.

Before the tea ceremony starts, we’ll open with zazen, so organize your tea items before hand.

Depending on time there may be questions, and discussion on the practice of tea and zen after the closing.

We plan to gather on the first saturday of each month and share tea.

“Chanoyu must be made with the heart,
not with the hand.
Make it without making it,
in the stillness of your mind”
