Covid Policies at Tahoma
Tahoma Zen Monastery has successfully developed guidelines for Covid in the past. We continue to have concerns about Covid transmission in communal settings such as OSesshin.
Masking
Please mask when traveling to the monastery. It is in crowded public spaces that one is most likely to be infected.
During the sesshin masking required during periods of chanting otherwise it is optional, unless need for mandated masking arises.
With this in mind please bring supply of good quality masks (N95/KN95)
Testing
Kindly test before departure. If you are positive, or if you do not feel well, please stay home.
We will test on arrival, Day 2 and as needed.
Please Note
If Covid positive, attendees will be asked to isolate and will be asked leave Tahoma as soon as possible. Please be aware that all living quarters at Tahoma are communal and there are no places to stay in isolation. Freeland has limited motels or accommodations and rooms without prior reservations may not be available. Tahoma can only provide information for taxi or bus services and is not able to provide any other assistance for travel. Arrangements will need to be made by the individual.
Housing and Tenting
Housing has long been in short supply at Tahoma, and sleeping options are communal. Tents strongly encouraged, as space for privacy and also for potential quarantine, should that be necessary. Please consider bringing or sending a tent to Tahoma, even if you have requested temple housing. We have a small number of tents, available on a first-come, first-served basis. Upon arrival, let us know quickly if you would like to borrow a tent and we can let you know if any are still available.
In addition, please be aware
-In order to provide for optimal air circulation, the zendo windows will be open. Prepare to dress accordingly.
-If you have a compromised immune system, recovering from surgery, or if you have been unwell, you may wish to consider whether to attend this Osesshin. If you are unwell please stay home and plan to attend another Osesshin in the future.
-Any help with set up before or clean up following Osesshin would be greatly appreciated. If you are able, then come a day early or stay a day after sesshin to assist with many necessary tasks. You must provide us with your expected arrival and departure dates in the form below. If you need to change those dates, contact us, to make arrangements,
-The temple cannot provide transportation.
-The well at Tahoma is limited in its use so there will be water restrictions in place.
-No dogs or other pets are allowed at any time.
As always we expect adherence to our core sesshin rules
-Noble silence in all circumstance. Minimal functional speech only.
-Attendance at all events is mandatory. Be on time, which means be there early.
-No electronics especially in the zendo. Put your device into silent/airplane mode and leave in your sleeping area.
Please Note
We have used these guidelines in the past to hold safe sesshin. The guidelines worked then, and your cooperation is requested, so we can keep each other healthy and continue to practice together. Failure to follow our rules or procedures, or acting in such a way that is disruptive to the practice environment can lead to being asked to leave.
