One Drop Seattle  ~ Water Moon Dōjō

Seattle’s center for zazen, in the Rinzai tradition of Yamada Mumon, Shodo Harada, and Daichi Zenni Roshis, is located on the western edge of Fremont neighborhood in Seattle at  4231 6th Ave. NW., Seattle, WA, 98107. It is the dark green house across from Hale’s Ales on Leary Way. Parking is available on the street, or across Leary Way by the Fred Meyers.*

Currently we offer zazen [followed by tea] on Monday nights from 7 – 8:30 pm, Tuesday mornings from  6:30 – 8:30 am *, Thursday mornings from 6:30 – 7:30 am, and Saturday morning from 7:30 – 8:30 a.m.  [*Note: Tuesday morning zazen hosts a longer choka/sutra chanting.]

It is recommended to wear comfortable (subdued color) clothing. We have zafus, zabutons, a few seiza benches and chairs if needed but feel free to bring your own cushion(s).

Kindly remove shoes by the door. Please arrive before the start times as we do begin promptly. If you need instruction, please email or call the number below and arrange a time.

If you need to leave zazen early, you can quietly slip out during kinhin (walking meditation).

Daichi Zenni Roshi Kosesshins: April, May, and July 2017

Daichi Zenni will offer three upcoming Kosesshin at Tahoma:

April 4-8 Kosesshin

(Chisan arrives April 3, Kosesshin is April 4, 5, 6, 7, and morning of 8, and April 8 evening Chisan will offer Buddha’s Birthday at Watermoon Dojo 6-8:30 pm. (Ceremony 6-7, Sitting zazen 7- 8:30)

May 17-24 Kosesshin

(May 25-27 Chisan will be here for daily sitting schedule without sesshin)

July 13-17 Kosesshin

2017 Dharma Wisdom Talks: Present Day Reflections on Buddhism

The Wisdom Lecture Series was so successful in its inaugural year of 2016 , that another series is being presented this year, 2017, with all NEW topics.

Talks will be held in Seattle Watermoon Dojo in Fremont, and on Whidbey Island at Tahoma  Zen Monastery.
Created by Shodo Harada Roshi, Abbot of Tahoma  and Sogenji monasteries, this series of Wisdom Talks brings various experienced and knowledgeable practitioners and teachers to the area to inspire and share.

In Seattle, talks will be Friday or Saturday nights, 7:00 – 8:30 pm, at Water Moon Dōjō, home of One Drop Zendo Seattle, located on the western edge of  Fremont neighborhood in Seattle at: 4231 6th Ave. NW., Seattle, WA, 98107. It is the dark green house across from Hale’s Ales on Leary Way. On Whidbey, talks will be Sundays from 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 or 3:00 p.m., at the Tahoma Zen Monastery, 6499 Wahl Rd., Freeland, WA 98429. (Sunday talks end around 2:30 or 3:00 pm, depending on the speaker)

*EXCEPTION: HARADA ROSHI’S TALKS WILL BE ON MONDAY MAY 8, AND ON SEPTEMBER 10.*

An associate researcher at the International Research Institute for Zen Studies at Hanazono University in Kyoto, Tom Kirchner has participated in a number of gatherings of the East-West Spiritual Exchange program founded by Mumon Roshi many years ago, and has remained an ongoing participant in East-West dialogue ever since. Tom currently lives in Tenryūji Zen Temple in western Kyōto, and appears as part of One Drop Zendo’s “Wisdom Lecture Series: 2016.” This will be the last lecture of the season.

Tahoma Monastery is located on Whidbey Island, 30 miles (48 km) north of Seattle in Washington State, U.S.A.

The closest airport is SeaTac, south of Seattle. It is about 2-3 hours from airport to the Monastery. Please plan to coordinate your own transportation to and from the monastery. The easiest way if not driving is to take an airport shuttle directly to the island (2 hrs) and then a taxi to Tahoma (5 minutes). Taxi service exists from the shuttle station to the monastery gate.

MAP & DRIVING DIRECTIONS
From Seattle, take the ferry from Mukilteo to Clinton. Ferries run every 30 minutes on the hour and half hour. Drive west on Highway SR 525 about 8 miles, past the stoplight at Bayview, and turn left onto Useless Bay Road. Useless Bay Road becomes Millman Road. Stay on Millman and cross Double Bluff Road. At this point Millman Road is renamed Lancaster Road. About 2 miles beyond the Double Bluff/Lancaster intersection, turn left onto Wahl Road.  Enso House is on your left about ¾ mile down the road, and the Tahoma One Drop Zen Monastery entrance is about ¼ mile further on the left.
•WHIDBEY SEATAC SHUTTLE
This airport to island shuttle is the most convenient and direct way to travel from Seattle Tacoma (Seatac) Airport without a car.

This September the following sesshin will be held at Tahoma. The two ko-sesshin may be attended in-part. The Osesshin must be attended in its entirety.  You are welcome to spend the entire month at Tahoma.

SEPT 5-9: KOSESSHIN, 4 full days, with Shodo Harada Roshi.

Begins late afternoon on Sept. 5th, through to the end of day (approx. 9:30pm) on Sept. 9th.

SEPT 11TH: DHARMA LECTURE at 1-3pm by Shodo Harada Roshi. This lecture is open to the public and all Osesshin attendees are encouraged to arrive early enough to attend.

SEPT 11-18: OSESSHIN 7 full days, with Shodo Harada Roshi.
Begins late afternoon on Sept. 11th, through to the end of day (approx. 9:30pm) on Sept. 18th.

SEPT 19: Shodo Harada Roshi departs for Japan.

SEPT 20-27: KOSESSHIN, 7 full days with Daichi Roshi.  2 WITH Begins late afternoon on Sept. 20th., through to the end of day (approx. 9:30pm) on Sept.27th.

Tahoma Zen monastery holds sesshin throughout the year.

Shodo Harada Roshi leads sesshin in February, May, and September.
